KOCHI:Renowned author Amitav Ghosh will be in the city on Wednesday to launch his masterful ‘Flood of Fire’, the third instalment of the extraordinary ‘Ibis Trilogy’.

Penguin Books India and DC Books are jointly organising the launch at 5.30 pm at David Hall, Fort Kochi.
The Indian English author Ghosh will be in conversation with cultural critic C S Venkiteswaran (Associate Professor, Gulati Institute of Finance and Taxation).There will be an interactive session with the audience, followed by a book signing session too.
Jose Dominic (managing director, CGH Earth), Ananth Padmanabhan (senior vice president, Penguin Books India)and Ravi Deecee (CEO, DC Books) will also take part in the event.
The first book of the trilogy, ‘Sea of Poppies’ discussed the inner workings of the opium trade in the British era in India, while ‘River of Smoke’, the second instalment, portrayed the tensions between China and the foreign opium traders who had set their base in Canton.
Now, in the final book, ‘Flood of Fire’, Ghosh takes us through another phase of the trade - the rising friction between the traders of the East India Company and the Chinese government which ends up in the first opium war (1839-42).
Amitav Ghosh is the author of 10 highly-acclaimed works of fiction and non-fiction, including the Booker Prize-shortlisted ‘Sea of Poppies’ (book one of the Ibis Trilogy), ‘River of Smoke’, ‘The Glass Palace’ and ‘The Shadow Lines.’
