KOCHI:Considering the threat posed by the contaminated vegetables brought to the State from the other states, the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA), in association with the district administration, is planning to set up a separate laboratory in the city for testing the vegetables and fruits.
“We will hold a meeting of representatives of various cooperative societies engaged in organic farming in the district and officials of the Agriculture Department and Horticulture Department on June 19, to decide on the steps to be taken for setting up the lab.
The GCDA is ready to provide fund for the facility, for which a proposal will be submitted soon before the Government for approval,” said GCDA chairman N Venugopal.
At present, the GCDA is operating a lab for testing the quality of bricks, stones and hollow-bricks used for construction.
