KOCHI:After the ground-breaking decision taken by the Kochi Corporation and Kerala Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce to spruce up the Broadway to provide nightlife, the Kochi Corporation has come up with an idea to make similar arrangements at Subhash Park and Durbar Hall ground.

Kochi Mayor Tony Chammany has revealed the Corporation’s willingness to make arrangements for nightlife in the main centres of Kochi and the announcement came while he was delivering the presidential address in a function held as part of signing the Memorandum of Understanding between Kochi Corporation and Kerala Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce to spruce up Broadway.

“We are planning to extend the nightlife at Durbar Hall and Subhash Park by associating with private partners. The facilities we have decided to provide at Broadway will be arranged in these spots as well. Along with Chamber of Commerce, the support of other agencies is also essential to make the dream come true,” said the Mayor.

He also said that a decision in this regard will be taken after holding a discussion with the District Collector. “A meeting will be held with the District Collector in this connection within two or three days. At present, Kochi turns into a deserted place by 8 pm. With the setting up of the  arrangements for nightlife at Durbar Hall and Subhash Park, the Marine Drive zone will turn into a major attraction. We are planning to keep the city alive till 12 pm, so the short nightlife will be a thing of the past,” said the Mayor.

However, he asserted that bachelors will be restricted from entering the spots during nighttime. “Most of the professionals will have free time after 9 pm, but they rarely spend time with their parents. So, we are planning to reserve the spaces for families,” said Chammany.

He further said that the much-awaited reopening of Subhash Park will be held within two or three weeks.
