KOCHI:The Forward Seamen’s Union of India has alleged that the Lakshadweep Development Corporation Limited (LDCL) was not following the norms of the Merchant Shipping Act (MS-Act) issued by the Directorate General of Shipping, with regard to the wages of seamen.
Semen’s Union vice-president L F Mohammed said the LDCL did not provide any financial aid to the seamen who received the Prathima M Umraji Tribunal Award.
“While the other companies pay Rs 500-650 as overtime compensation to seamen, the LDCL has failed to comply with the norms. It did not revise the medical expenses, and is withholding the arrears of those who joined before 2010,” union members alleged.
