KOCHI:The Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA), which has come up with various initiatives to promote vegetable farming in the city, will set up 20 stalls to sell pesticide-free vegetables during the Onam season. This year, the GCDA has decided to increase the number of stalls to 20, considering the fact that demand for vegetables would be high during the Onam season.
“The stalls will function for five days during the season at Rajendra Maidan. We are planning to bring organic vegetables from farms at Kanjikkuzhy, Kottayam, Cherthala, Thodupuzha and Palakkad,” said GCDa chairman N Venugopal.
A separate organic vegetable market will be set up at Maradu Market, jointly by the district administration and the GCDA. The Collector had instructed the principal agricultural officer to submit a report on the steps needed to make Ernakulam a self-sufficient district in vegetable farming.
