Aura of 'Asanas' over City

KOCHI: The Southern Naval Command on Sunday organised  various activities such as yoga camps, yoga runs, awareness programmes and lectures in connection with the International Yoga Day to popularise yoga among naval personnel. 

Southern Naval Command Flag Office Commander-in-Chief  Vice Admiral Sunil Lamba, along with his wife Reena Lamba, attended a yoga camp which saw the participation of more than 800 persons.

Yoga instructor Nuthan from ‘Me Met Me’ Yoga Centre, Panampilly Nagar, Kochi, led the camp. Various ‘asanas’, ‘pranayamas’, conditioning exercises and breathing practices were introduced to the naval community by end of the session.

Addressing the personnel, Admiral Lamba spoke about the virtues and benefits of yoga and the importance of integrating it to one’s daily life.

The Naval Institute of Aeronautical Technology conducted a yoga run and camp on behalf of the Southern Naval Command.

In addition, personnel at INS Dronacharya and NAD Aluva also organised activities such as ‘Yoga awareness walk’ and ‘Beach yoga’ at Fort Kochi and Aluva.

The programmes are spread over four days. Personnel deployed on naval ships,  including those at sea and away on overseas deployment, also took part in the activities by performing ‘asanas’ at sea.

The Indian Navy’s sail training ship Tarangini, on a voyage to  Europe and presently at Malta, conducted yoga programmes in consultation with the Indian Mission and civil administration.

Naval authorities said that the Southern Naval Command will continue to conduct yoga awareness programmes in the coming months also.

NCC Cadets Join Mass Event

The Cochin Refineries School, in association with the NCC 22 Kerala Battalion, on Sunday staged a mass yoga performance with the participation 182 NCC cadets, in connection with International Yoga Day. This demo was  reportedly the largest yoga performance with the participation  of NCC cadets.

The event was held at Oval Ground of the school. The school had provided accommodation for all cadets and 50  NCC officials on its campus the previous day.

School principal Mala Menon and vice-principal S Devideyal were the stewards of the programme  Group Commander Commodore Sridhar, Commanding Officer Colonel Mario Monte and AO Lieutenant Colonel Rajnarayan, along with  yoga instructor Manilal, led the programme.
