KOCHI: India should be self-sufficient in manufacturing of products, said Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu.
“At present 60 per cent of our revenue comes from the service sector and less than 20 per cent is from manufacturing. This is an unsustainable model, so we have to be self- reliant in manufacturing as we can’t always depend on imports,” the Minister said.
He was speaking after launching the website of ‘Make in India - Make in Kerala summit’ here on Sunday. “We are in reality making a platform for them to find success here,” he said. Prabhu said the biggest challenge that India faces is the creation of employment opportunities.
