KOCHI: In connection with the first International Day Of Yoga, a function was organised at the Amrita Health Sciences Campus to create awareness among students on the importance of Yoga.
At the outset, the meeting congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for having initiated the process for declaring June 21 as the International Yoga Day.
Amrita School of Medicine principal Prathapan Nair in his welcome address said the International Yoga Day was being observed at a crucial time.
“The science of Yoga is of great significance now, like never before. Today, we are very advanced in terms of science and technology, but we lack peace and harmony. So, it is very important that we develop an inner awareness so that we would experience every other being as a part of ourselves,” he said.
On the occasion, Prathapan Nair distributed cash awards to winners of the Essay competition held in connection with the International Yoga Day observance.
The topic of the essay was ‘Yoga in Day-to-day Life.’ MBBS students Athullya Balagopal, Meenu C Nair and Chalsy George won the first, second and third prize, respectively.
