KOCHI: In a comment posted in his blog supporting yoga on the International Yoga Day, actor Mohanlal has raised concern over the trend of mixing religion with yoga.
“It makes one downhearted to see the controversies, which are powerful enough to malign the society, that propped up when yoga was included in the curriculum with the intention of spreading its scope,” he said.
The actor posted that as an Indian he was proud that the world had started accepting yoga, though late, which is a scientific plan for life developed by the ancient sages of the land, much before the advent of the concepts of the State, political parties or even religion and religious leaders.
“The words of Swami Vivekananda that ‘India will be a trailblazer to the world, and has to be one,’ is turning into a reality. I was amused on many occasions when I had a tryst with yoga in my life, over the depth of this noble practice after I became a yoga student ,” Lal said .
“I have no idea the shade of which religion has fallen on yoga, which was born in an era much before the beginning of religions. Consider this as an action plan for the external and the internal body. Yoga has many ‘asanas’, and manifestations of yoga could be seen in the prayer styles of many religions,” he pointed out in the post that ended with a note by Swami Vivekananda on Rajayoga.
