Man Held for Multiple Theft

KOCHI:The Ernakulam Rural Police on Tuesday arrested a 67-year-old man who is alleged to have committed a series of thefts in churches and temples in various parts of the State.

  According to the police, Baby, son of Pathros, Ayyampuzha, was involved in more than 30 theft cases registered in Thrissur, Ernakulam, Kottayam and Idukki districts. He was taken into custody from Kalady town, while he was planning his next ‘operation’. The police also seized Rs 11,000 from him.

 He confessed to the police that he had committed thefts in the Jacobite Church, Tiruvankulam; Sivajipuram Temple, Angamaly; Jacobite Church, Chingavanam, Kottayam; Jacobite Church, Vellur, Kottayam and Jacobite Church, Koothattukulam.   He allegedly robbed around 110 gm gold ornaments and Rs 2.5 lakh cash from the churches and temples.
