Special Team to Probe Drowning Case

KOCHI:A day after four members of a family drowned in a water-filled quarry at Sasthammukal on the Thiruvankulam-Puthankurishu route, a special team headed by Piravom circle-inspector K Jinadevan was formed to probe the case.

The team, including the Chottanikkara and Piravom sub-inspectors, is expected to probe both the suicide and accident angles.

In the ‘accident’, V V Viju, 42, of Thodupuzha, his wife Sheeba, 36, their daughter Meenakshi, 7, and son Surya, 7, had died on Sunday.

Preliminary inquiry has showed that no external entity was involved in the incident, and neither did the postmortem report reveal anything unusual. The cause of death has been reported as drowning.

Meanwhile, police sources said the real picture would emerge only after they hold talks with relatives and friends of the deceased. The relatives had earlier pointed out that there was no apparent reason for Viju and his family to commit suicide.
