Take a Trip With Kannan Thru Periyar Wildlife Reserve

KOCHI: ‘Life for Lives’, a documentary on the life of Kannan, a forest watcher at Periyar Tiger Reserve will be screened at Ernakulam Children’s Park Theatre on Sunday as part of the monthly programme of the Cochin Film Society. V D Satheesan MLA will inaugurate the meeting at 5.30 pm prior to the screening.

Kochi Deputy Mayor Bhadra B, Kerala Chalachita Akademy vice chairman Joshy Mathew, senior journalist G Shaheed, district information officer PRD, Chandrahasan Vaduthala, Jain George district coordinator NYKS will attend the meeting.

The documentary made by Roshni Ross showcases Kannan’s passion and commitment towards wildlife conservation. He has been working at the Periyar Tiger Reserve for over 35 years now. Kannan’s family hails from Bengal. His grandfather who was a construction worker had migrated to the state when Mullapperiyar dam was being constructed. Subsequently he settled in Kerala. His father had also dedicated his life to protect wildlife.

He has put maximum effort in making the Forest Department’s conservation efforts a success with his exceptional knowledge about the flora and fauna of the forest.

Kannan has also received the Madhavan Pillai Conservation Award-2011 instituted by Madhavan Pillai Foundation for Conservation. He has also received the Sanctuary Asia award.
