KOCHI:The Elamakkara Police on Saturday arrested a Karnataka-native on charges of impersonating the Revenue Secretary of that state.

According to the police, 30-year-old Muhammed Kayas Talib of Raichur took a house on rent at Ponnekkara here last week, in the guise of the Karnataka Revenue Secretary.  “Talib used a fake identity card to make the house owner and the public believe that he was an IAS officer. He also told others that his wife was an IAS officer with the Jammu and Kashmir cadre, and that they were visiting Kerala for her treatment. According to Talib, he was appointed as the Malappuram District Collector, and his wife would be getting deputation to Kerala soon,” said the Elamakkara sub-inspector.

Talib’s behaviour evoked suspicion among the house owner and neighbours, who informed Deputy Commissioner Harisankar. Further inquiry revealed that Talib was staying on fake identity. It is learnt that he was suspended from government service by Karnataka Govt.
