CM Ummen Chandy to Launch Two Projects in Aluva

One of the project aims at development of Aluva Municipality, while the other, which has been conceived by MLA Anwar Sadath.

KOCHI:Chief Minister of Kerala will launch two programmes, one which aims at the development of Aluva Municipality and the other is an initiative to provide free insurance cover to around 20,000 students in the Assembly constituency, on Monday.

The CM will launch a plan titled ‘Framework for Future Proofing’, supported by UK government and designed to help the township of Aluva to prepare better for climate change impact and develop in a sustainable manner, at a function which will be held at the Municipal Office Ground at noon. The plan carries a set of activities to be implemented by the Municipality of Aluva and the state government. Most of the activities will involve urban development, restoration of River Periyar and waste management.

The project is designed to provide citizens of Aluva primarily with cleaner water and air, better sanitation facilities, improved road safety and flooding systems.

The three key priority areas are urban design plan to improve the quality of public places, to encourage use of low carbon transport options, restoration of Periyar River, implementation of green corridors and improvements in the waste management systems of Aluva.

Besides, the Chief Minister will also announce five sets of priority projects such as intervention in sanitation, waste management and sewage systems as well as urban design. With a substantial private sector involvement, these projects will play a key role towards improving the quality of life in Aluva,said organisers.

Urban Development Minister Manjalamkuzhi Ali will preside over the function in which the CM will receive the document on ‘Framework for Future Aluva’ from the British Deputy High Commissioner Bharat Joshi. 

Insurance Cover for Students

In another function, the CM will inaugurate a project conceived by Anwar Sadath MLA which aims at providing free insurance cover to around 20,000 students of 58 government and aided schools in Aluva Assembly constituency limits. As part of the project, the Middle East based Shifa Aljazeera Group will provide free insurance cover of Rs 50,000 to every students studying in the schools within the limits of Aluva legislative constituency, said Anwar Sadath .

The free insurance project that covers children up to the higher secondary level also aims at reducing absenteeism among students while ensuring that their education does not suffer from unforeseen  health issues. Under the scheme titled ‘MLA Student Insurance Scheme’, each student is eligible to get an insurance cover of Rs 50,000 for a period of one year and the compensation will be Rs 25,000 in case they lose their parents due to any kind of calamities, road accidents, drowning, etc, he said in a release.

Cine actress Sai Pallavi and Dr K T Rabiullah will take part in the function.
