KOCHI: The Hurt and Homicide Wing of the Crime Branch on Monday arrested a person who allegedly raped the Paravoor sex scam victim, along with his friends at a resort in Munnar in 2009. The arrested is Rajesh, 36, of Kuruppampady.
According to Biju K Stephan, DySP and investigation officer of the case, it was following the arrest of Renjith of Ashamanoor from Chennai that the involvement of Rajesh was revealed. “Rajesh was not included in the accused list of the Paravoor case as we had no information about his involvement. Renjith was arrested from Chennai while returning from Abu Dhabi two weeks ago. He deposed before us that Rajesh was also with him when the victim was sexually harassed at a resort in Munnar. Following this, Rajesh was arrested from his native place,” Biku K Stephan said.
Rajesh was running a workshop at Kuruppampady. After the arrest of Renjith, his identification parade was conducted in which the victim identified him. Rajesh was produced before the court and was remanded. The Crime Branch will filing a petition in the court seeking permission to conduct identification parade of the accused.
Till now, more than 100 persons have been arrested by the Crime Branch in the case. As many as 11 persons in the accused list are absconding.
