International Travellers: Kochi to Beat Chennai

The Cochin International Airport Ltd is set to become the third largest airport in the country in terms of international air passenger handling.

KOCHI: The Cochin International Airport Ltd is set to become the third largest airport in the country in terms of international air passenger handling. The airport clocked a record footfall of 25,09,781 passengers in the first quarter of this fiscal.

Of the total 25.09 lakh passengers, 15,20,688 were international passengers, an increase of about 21.87 pc in international traffic, and the remaining 9,89,093 were domestic passengers, a traffic growth of 32.31 pc.

The Chennai airport, in the third position in terms of international passenger handling, could register only less than 5 pc growth during this period. This shows that the CIAL, fourth in the country in terms of international tourist handling, is way ahead and would overtake the Chennai airport in this fiscal itself, said V J Kurien, Managing Director, CIAL.
