KOCHI:A team headed by Sub-collector S Suhas on Friday evicted encroachments, including wayside shops, at Vasco da Gama Square at Fort Kochi. Though the place has been listed as heritage zone, the tents and stalls put up by street vendors has defaced the historic site, and activities of the merchants keep polluting the area.
According to a statement issued by the Sub-collector, eviction notices were served on the wayside shops on August 17. The authorities moved ahead with the eviction procedures after the encroachers failed to respond to the notice.
