Star War on Screen

KOCHI:Ramzan season was not so rosy for Mollywood. However, trade analysts believe that the Onam festival will bring a fresh lease of life to theatres, especially single screens in the city, with an array of major releases of popular stars set to hit theatres.

The first Onam release to hit theatres was ‘Loham’, directed by Ranjith. The movie was released all over Kerala last Thursday. It is being screened at big capacity theatre Kavitha along with PVR (Lulu), Cinemax (Oberon) and Pan Cinema (Abad Nucleus). Malayalis will also get an opportunity to see once again the star war they use to witness in the past two decades during Onam.

Following ‘Loham’, which has superstar Mohanlal in the lead, the other superstar of Malayalam, Mammootty, will come up with his Onam fiesta on Uthradom day. Directed by veteran director Kamal, ‘Uttopiyayile Rajavu’ will see Mammootty playing the role of C P Swathantran, an activist. A political satire, ‘Utopiyayile Rajavu’ will be screened at Ernakulam Saritha Complex along with multiplex screens in major malls.

One of the widely expected movies of 2015 will also hit the screens during this Onam. Directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery, the movie, ‘Double Barrel’ is one of the biggest production ventures in Malayalam. Made at an estimated cost of Rs 16 crore, the film has Prithviraj, Indrajith, Asif Ali, Arya, Sunny Wayne, Isha Shervani and other major actors of Malayalam cinema playing prominent roles. ‘Double Barrel’ (‘Iratta Kuzhal’) will be screened at Shenoys and Sridhar, along with  multiplexes.

Actor Kunchakko Boban’s ‘Jamna Pyari’, with its promising and fun-filled teasers, has already created enough hype among viewers. Directed by Thomas Sebastian, the movie will be released on Thiruvonam day at Ernakulam Padma. Vineeth Sreenivasan and his brother Dhyan Sreenivasan have portrayed lead roles in the movie ‘Kunji Ramayanam’, another major Onam release. Bollywood movie ‘Phantom’ and ‘Thani Oruvan’ from Kollywood too will be in cinemas.
