Support for Striking FTII Students

KOCHI:  The Collective Kochi on Sunday organised a meeting here to declare solidarity with students of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune.

The organisers said the meeting was organised to protest against ‘saffronisation’ of the country’s cultural sphere by the Central Government. The meeting was inaugurated by P Rajeeve MP at the Children’s Park Theatre. Rajeeve in his inaugural address said strikes were the need of the hour for preventing political invasion into the cultural field and to protect democracy.“Cultural organisations should make efforts to protect democratic values,” he said. After the meeting, Amma Ariyan, the 1986 film directed by John Abraham, was screened at the venue.
