Maharashtra Shows the Way

KOCHI: Hike in pre school fee in metro cities such as Mumbai and Pune had forced the All India Federation of Parents Teachers Association to protest.

Their efforts paid off when the Maharashtra Educational Institutions Act 2011 received the President’s green signal for implementation in schools in Maharashtra  for the academic year 2015-16.

According to the Act, the fees of  private educational institutions will be regulated by an executive committee, comprising of principals and PTA members. “What is missing here is a body such as this, which can put up a fight against private schools and their mundane syllabus and fees, especially for preschools. There are just a handful of private schools that an average family can afford. It is high time these fee structures are regulated,” said Uttara Das, a mother of two, who are currently doing their preschooling at a prominent school in the city.
