Band Charms Hospital Crowd with Vintage Songs

KOCHI:The film song was double her age, but tenth-grader Amrutha R Kartha rendered it with such grace that the assemblage began tapping their hands-in tandem with the beat.

Suddenly for the audience, the hit number ‘Swarnamukile...’ from the 1982 Malayalam movie Ithu Njangalude Katha propelled them to cloud nine.

The crowd, including patients, doctors and bystanders at Government General Hospital, was further treated to some vintage ditties.

The event was organised as part of the 61st edition of Arts and Medicine Programme of Kochi Biennale Foundation. (KBF) holds art and cultural programmes on  every Wednesday at the Ernakulam General hospital here.

This time, the show held in association with the Mehboob Memorial Orchestra and Lakeshore Hospital and Research Centre Ltd, commemorated well-known tabla player Balram Master.

 The gathering paid a silent prayer as part of the homage, prior to the recital of .

Apart from Amrutha, Terence George and Salim Yusuf of Mellow Musical Group, Kochi sang.

The trio reproduced old-time Malayalam and Hindi songs.

Terence started with “Malayala bhashathan...” and also rendered “Poomanam...” and “Saranga...,” an old Hindi hit.
