'Delay in Land Acquisition Hinders Devpt'

KOCHI:The delay in land acquisition is a major hurdle being faced by the authorities in initiating infrastructure development projects in the city, said Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) chairman N Venugopal here on Monday.

He was speaking at the round-table meeting organised by Greater Cochin Development Watch on traffic problems of Kochi.

The discussions mainly focused on various infrastructure projects that are remaining as non-starters.

Regarding the Goshree-Mamangalam Road connecting Edappally to the High Court Junction, which is yet to be materialised, Kochi Corporation Town Planning Standing Committee chairman K J Sohan said that a new sketch would have to be drawn for the proposal.

“The project can be carried further only after drawing the new sketch.

“On the basis of the sketch, the alignment, desired width and other details need to be finalised.

“If the project becomes  a reality, a new parallel road to Banerjee Road will be opened and commuters from the Edappally side can reach the city more easily,” Venugopal added.
