KUFOS Library Complex to be Opened Today

KOCHI: Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS) will open its newly built library complex on May 23.   The library will also host a community information corner showcasing collection of books and CDs in the area of fish farming, feeds, disease diagnosis, fish processing and traditional knowledge of fishermen to benefit fish farmers and the fishing community.

Minister for Fisheries K Babu will inaugurate the complex at 10 am on Saturday. B Madhusoodana Kurup will preside over the function. The corner at the new library complex will provide a better platform to fish farmers and fishing community to access information related to their fields, said Vice-Chancellor B Madhusoodana Kurup. Various books and literature specially meant for the fishing community will be showcased at the corner. Books and CDs on indigenous traditional knowledge (ITK), collected and archived by the KUFOS from traditional fishermen, will also be available. 

A full-fledged digital library with Wi-Fi connectivity is already functioning at KUFOS. With the opening of the new building, the facility will be developed into a state-of-the-art information dissemination centre by introducing more modern facilities and innovative tools, a university press release stated.
