KOCHI: The Ernakulam Additional Sessions Court on Friday dismissed an appeal filed by the nine persons accused in the blackmailing case involving the former chief priest (Tantri) of Sabarimala Temple.

The accused persons, including the main accused Sobha John and Beechu Rehman, had filed a petition challenging the Additional Sessions Court’s order granting seven years’ rigorous imprisonment to them and slapping fine. The Additional Sessions Court, which heard the appeal, said there was no fault on the part of the prosecution. The court also dismissed the plea by the accused to reduce the  quantum of the sentence, saying the prosecution had successfully brought the accused before justice.
