Ideal Place for an Exhibition against Smoking

KOCHI: A message is always conveyed best through cartoons and artist Badusha knows exactly how to put that to use to spread awareness on the consequences of smoking.

He has exhibited more than 30 posters with digitally created cartoons at Ernakulam General Hospital. The artist feels that there is no better place to display these images than a hospital. “Smoking, without doubt, is one of the major reasons for a good number of people being diagnosed with cancer,” says Badusha.

The artist, who is more of a caricaturist, says, “I have resorted to cartoons because I wanted to convey the message through a simple medium.”

Most of the works displayed, though simple and colourful, seem to be portrayed through intellectual visuals. One of the posters has a skinny man smoking with a chain hung around his neck connecting the cigarette. “This image is my visual interpretation of a chain smoker,” explains Badusha.

The exhibition was organised by Centre for Empowerment and Enrichment (CEFEE) in collaboration with Student Police Cadets. Inaugurated by Ernakulam General Hospital RMO Dr Rafeeq P K, the event will conclude on May 31.
