Elaborate Security Arrangements in Place for the Elections

KOCHI:The District administration has taken elaborate steps to ensure maximum security in the polls that will be held on Thursday. Election deputy collector S Shanavas said that a striking team comprising of 75 officials headed by the District election Commissioner has been formed. The entire police force will be controlled by 14 DySPs. A total of nearly 2,500 policemen will be deployed exclusively for the election duty. This includes 15 Circle Inspectors, 68 sub inspectors and women police officers.

Meanwhile, in  connection with the local body polls, public holiday has been declared for schools which will be used as polling stations on Wednesday and Thursday. Schools which will be used as counting centres alone will get a holiday on Thursday, Wednesday and Saturday.

 The Collector has instructed all the officials who are assigned with the election duty to report at the centres from where the poll materials are issued on Wednesday, at 10 am. The officials have also been asked not to move away from the centre without the consent of the presiding officer after reporting at the centre.
