SPCA Punishment: ASI Made to Write Imposition

KOCHI: State Police Complaint Authority chairman (SPCA) Justice K Narayana Kurup has punished an Assistant Sub-Inspector of the Kalamassery police station, against whom a complaint of custodial torture was lodged with the Authority, by making him write imposition.

ASI D Deepu was asked to write the words ‘Custodial Torture is Unconstitutional and a Violation of Human Dignity’ 50 times, after the SPCA found that the complaint of custodial torture was serious in nature. The action was taken based on a complaint filed by one Varghese. The SPCA has also recommended compensation for the victim.  Varghese allegedly was subjected to custodial torture by Deepu, after one Rajan filed a complaint that Varghese had stolen his purse. Later, Rajan recovered the purse, which he had actually misplaced by mistake. After being released from custody, Varghese underwent treatment for chronic chest-pain and breathlessness for over one year.
