Bengal Natives Held for Sexually Abusing Minor

ALUVA:The Ernakulam rural police on Wednesday arrested two West Bengal natives on charges of allegedly raping a 12-year-old Bengali girl for over two years. The arrested have been identified as Martin Uravu, 32, father of the victim, and Raman Roy alias Babu, 28.

 According to police, the girl has been staying in Kerala along with her family for about 10 years and  five years ago, the family shifted to a rented house in Kunjunnikkara. The police said that the father of the victim sexually abused his elder daughter for over two years.

 The victim was also introduced to two of his friends, staying at the upper floor of the same house, and they also raped the minor girl several times. All the three accused were employed at a stationary store in Aluva. Meanwhile, the police are on the lookout for the third accused who is on the run.

 The accused had warned the victim of dire consequences against speaking the truth to anyone in the family.  The incident came to light during a counselling programme conducted by Child Line workers in the victim’s school. The accused have been booked under provisions of the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and remanded to custody, said police.
