High Court Tells Governments to File Affidavit

KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Monday asked the Central Government and state governments to file affidavits in response to a petition seeking a directive not to allow MPs or MLAs to display their photos/names in connection with projects undertaken with funds allotted under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) and MLA funds.

The directive was issued by a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Ashok Bhushan and Justice A M Shaffique when the petition  filed by Human Rights Protection Mission state general convener P E Shaji came up for hearing.

As per Clause-3.22 of the guidelines of MPLADS-2014, a specification was given about the plaque to be exhibited for greater public awareness.

But, contrary to the provisions, some of the MPs were found to be displaying their names associated with such projects.
