Cartoon Academy Fellowship for Menon

T V G Menon, a cartoonist and a senior member of the academy, will be honoured at a ceremony at Durbar Hall on Wednesday

KOCHI: Kerala Cartoon Academy will give its Fellowship Award to T V G Menon, cartoonist and a senior member of the academy at a ceremony which will be held at the Durbar Hall here on Wednesday. The ceremony will be inaugurated by Mayor Soumini Jain.

Cartoon Academy chairman Prasannan Anikkad will preside over the function. Senior cartoonist Yesudasan will be the chief guest.

Menon.jpgJustice Hariharan Nair, retired Justice of Kerala High Court, P Ramachandran Nair, general secretary, Ernakulam Karayogam as also the renowned painter T Kaladharan will address the gathering.

T V G Menon, who sketches under the non-de plume of ‘menon’, is an artist who has stamped the cartooning field with his unique style of thought and rendition.

Born in Ernakulam, on the November 30, 1939, he belongs to the well-known Thathampilli family.

He is an electrical engineer and  also holds a degree in Physics. He started his professional career in BHEL Bhopal in 1962. He then moved on to the then English Electric Company in Chennai in 1972. From there he retired as the general manager of their Relay Division in the year 2000.

Even during those those hectic professional days he found time to pursue his pet hobby of cartooning, albeit on a subdued scale. After retirement he took serious cartooning. He veered away from political cartooning, but concentrated on social and other subjects clothing them in rib-tickling humour which made people laugh and think simultaneously.

His works now appears in the various social medias regularly.

His cartoon entry ‘Mobile Mon’ bagged the first prize in a contest held by Kerala Cartoon Academy in 2005. Also he won honourable mentions from Kerala Lalita Kala Academy in 2011 (global warming) and in 2015 (endosulphan).

He lives in ‘Santhi Savera’ apartment complex on Warriam Road with his wife Jaya Menon.
