NIA Court Issues Warrant to Produce Maoist Leader

KOCHI: The National Investigation Agency court has issued a warrant to produce Maoist leader Roopesh and activist Anoop on Saturday in connection with the case related to attack on civil police officer at Vellamunda in Wayanad.

An NIA official said that the warrant has been sent to Coimbatore Central Jail where Roopesh and Anoop are lodged.

NIA officials said they had to verify with jail authorities whether Roopesh and Anoop could be brought to Kochi. Since there are several cases registered against the duo, there are possibilities of taking them to other courts as part of the pending cases on the same day.

On April 24, 2015 Roopesh and three unidentified women trespassed into civil police officer A B Pramod’s house, trained their guns at him and threatened to kill him. The team asked Pramod to resign from his job.

They also set afire his motorcycle, causing a loss of around Rs 30,000. Anoop, Ibrahim and Rejeesh, another accused, aided Roopesh and three others in the attack.

The NIA took over the probe in the case from Kerala Police last month. Roopesh along with wife Shyna were arrested from Coimbatore in May 2015.
