KOCHI: When a pet parent has to travel, boarding their furry friend is the primary concern. City Express lists a few recommended by pet lovers in four southern cities.

Bhairav Camps in Hyderabad understands the need of letting the pets play. Therefore, they have a playground for pets in their 14,000 square yards space. “We let them go out three to four times in a day to attend their nature’s call and play at the same time. The time varies from a few minutes to half an hour depending on the seasons,” informs Archana Akunuri, founder of the place. The dogs also get to play fetch. They play in group or alone depending on how they like it. They have 20 kennels which can accommodate 32 dogs. “We provide them with coolers in summers and yellow light in winter that would keep them warm.” Food here is customised according to the dogs needs. With CCTV surveillance, they make sure that the dog is safe. She charges `350 per day and `400 during vacations.

Hotel for Dogs in Bengaluru, which also has a branch in Chennai, can accommodate 70 dogs in their 3x6 feet kennels. Dogs love their pool and they are also taken for grooming session that includes bathing and trimming nails and coat. Pravan, the manager,  says, “We also give them a red bath – a medicinal bath to avoid ticks.” Every dog gets the food they love as per the owners’ instructions. They also have a fixed schedule. Caretaker Ganesh explains, “They wake up around 5.30 am, play outside from 6 to 8 am and have their breakfast. We serve lunch at 1 pm and let them out again at 4. They play till 6 pm.” Here tariffs depend on the breed: `300 for the Indian mongrels, `500 for small breeds, `600 for medium-sized ones and `700 for large breeds.

It was started by Kamal, a pet lover who owns nearly 17 cats, eight years ago. She has air-conditioned rooms for dogs and cats. Kamal takes in only two to three pets at a time. She charges `200 to `550 per day, and `200 for kittens and `300-350 for cats. “As we take in less numbers, we can attend to them better. We also undertake long-term boardings and veterinary visits,” she says. She adds that the food is provided according to the pet’s requirement.

This hospital also provides boarding facilities and the pricing is based on the weight of your dog: Upto 10 kg is `250 per day; 10-25kg is `300 per day; 25-40 kg is `350 per day and above 40 kg is `400 per day. For cats, it’s a uniform `200 per day. Dogs are served processed food and rice and chicken. Besides this and medical services, this centre also houses a pet store Petonia (a Greek name for Love for Pets) and a beauty parlour for your pooch.
