Four-year deadline for Water Metro project

KOCHI: The Water Metro project mooted for the Kochi agglomeration area will be completed in four years, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan here on Saturday.

The project will be implemented by the Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL), with funding from German Development Bank Kfw.Speaking after inaugurating construction of the `747-crore Water Metro project at Koathadu island, Pinarayi said, “this is the first comprehensive project of its kind being implemented anywhere in the country for development of water transport network. A total of 78 new boats will be purchased for the service, thereby offering better connectivity between islands in the Kochi agglomeration area and the city,” said Pinarayi.

The Chief Minister also officially inaugurated the 750-meter walkway-cum-cycle track on Shihab Thangal Road at Panampilly Nagar here.

The project was implemented by the Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL).
