KOCHI: Rare disease day observed

Rare disease day was observed at  Amrita Institute of Medical sciences (AIMS), here on Sunday. Nishanthini R, DCP Law and Order was the chief guest at the function. The key note address was given by Dr Ramesh R, director of Health Services. The event was organized by the Academy of Pediatrics (IAP), Kerala Association of Neurologists (KAN) and AIMS in association with Lysosomal Storage Disorders Support Society (LSDSS). Dr Sheela Nampoothiri, consultant and HOD- Pediatrics Genetics, AIMS,  who won the Dr Eapen Samuel Memorial Award  of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) for the best research paper published in the state of Kerala, was one of the main speakers at the event. She spoke about the reality of the disease and how it was very important for children suffering from the disease to get early treatment.

Orator M Krishnan Nair to be commemorated

A meeting to commemorate literary critic, writer and orator Professor M Krishnan Nair will be held at EMS Cooperative Library hall at Kakkanad here on Saturday. Writer Payipra Radhakrishnan will inaugurate the meeting organised jointly by District Cooperative Bank and EMS Cooperative Library at 3 pm. Journalist Johny Lukose will deliver the key note address. Writer Chemmanam Chacko, advocate M M Monai, lyric critic T P Sasthamangalam and family members of Professor Krishnan Nair will take part at the function. An exhibition of children's paintings is being organised as a part of the function. Advocate M M Monai will inaugurate the exhibition.
