KOCHI: In yet another case of sexual violence, the Aluva Police on Saturday arrested a 22-year-old man on charges of raping a minor girl who is his neighbour.
According to the police, Mohammed Ashique of Puthuvalparambu Veetil, Veliyathunadu, sexually abused the girl who used to visit his house. The incident came to light when parents took the girl to a doctor after she suffered mental trauma and refused to attend examination.
A counselling was conducted, and officials of the Special Juvenile Police recorded the victim’s statement. A case was registered at the Aluva East police station, and the accused was taken into custody from Veliyathunadu by a team led by circle inspector T B Vijayan.
Medical tests confirmed rape, and the accused confessing the crime during interrogation. Later, he was remanded in judicial custody.
