KOCHI: A special workshop on aortic surgery and interventions, titled ‘Sunrise Aortacon-2016,’ was held at Hotel Avenue Centre at Panampilly Nagar here on Sunday.
The workshop was jointly inaugurated by Justice K Surendra Mohan and three patients who successfully underwent complex surgeries.
Specialists in cardiac surgery, cardiology, interventional radiology and cardiac anaesthesia participated in the seminar that was led by experts from across the country.
At the meet, around 200 doctors from across the State discussed the latest developments and shared their ideas and experience in the treatment of cardiac diseases.
“Aortic aneurysm and aortic dissection are the major diseases affecting the aorta, which is the largest artery that carries blood from the heart. Early and accurate diagnosis and timely surgical intervention are crucial in the treatment of these conditions,” said Sunrise Hospital-Kochi chief cardiac surgeon Dr E V John, who an expert in aortic surgery.
If symptoms of the disease, which usually reaches the critical stage after a few years, are recognised and diagnosed in the early stage, complications could be avoided. Such seminars play an important role in creating the necessary awareness on the matter,” said Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology-Thiruvananthapuram chief cardiac surgeon Prof K Jayakumar in his keynote address.Dr Rahul Sheth, Prof Neelakandan, Prof Unnikrishnan, Dr George Joseph and Dr John E V presented scientific papers at the seminar. The inaugural function was presided over by Sunrise Group of Hospitals chairman Dr Hafeez Rahman. Minimally Invasive Surgery Institute Internationale (MISII- Sunrise Hospital) director Dr R Padmakumar delivered the felicitation speech.
