KOCHI: The diamond jubilee foundation day celebration of ICAR-CIFT (Indian Council of Agricultural Research - Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, Kochi) will be held on 29th April, 2017.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will be the chief guest. Srimati J. Mercykutty Amma, Minister for Fisheries, Harbour Engineering and Cashew Industry will preside over the function.
The grand function will be held at Willingdon Island, Kochi. The Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, set up in 1957, is the only national centre in the country where research programmes in all disciplines relating to fishing and fish processing are undertaken.
ICAR-CIFT has made significant scientific contributions in the fields of fish harvesting, processing, packaging, product development, quality assurance, fishery byproducts, fishery waste utilisation and so on. The programmes for the event will be spread over a week.
ICAR-CIFT has its headquarters in Kochi (Kerala) and research centres at Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), Veraval (Gujarat) and Mumbai (Maharashtra). In addition, the institute has four research vessels for experimental fishing operations.
Advocate V S Sunil Kumar, Minister for Agriculture, will be present as guest of honour. The keynote address will be delivered by T. Mohapatra, Secretary, DARE, Government of India and Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi. MLAs, CMC Mayor, heads of institutions, district collector and many retired staff of ICAR-CIFT will attend the programme.
The event will also see the release of a series of publications, followed by the launching of CIFT trade mark logo ‘CIFTEC’. Various programmes for the event include ScientificTalk, Industry Meet, Stakeholders’ Workshop, Open House, Painting Competition, quiz and the programmes will conclude with an exhibition of ICAR-CIFT Technologies on 29th April, 2017.
