KOCHI: The police team investigating the death of 28-year-old Gowri, a transgender, on Saturday confirmed the person was murdered by unknown miscreants. “An inquiry is on and a few have been questioned in this regard”, said a police officer. Gowri was found dead near Aluva Railway Station last Monday. According to Aluva police, Gowri was strangled to death.

The body of Gowri has been kept preserved at a hospital as all efforts to trace the relatives of the victim proved futile. Meanwhile, the transgender community in Aluva has informed the police they are willing to accept the body. “The victim is a native of Tamil Nadu and we couldn’t trace the relatives.

If the District Collector directs us to handover the body to the community leaders we have no objection,” said the officer. The body of Gowri was found in the bushes near the railway goods shed by passersby.

The body was covered using an asbestos sheet and there were marks on her neck, which police suspect was caused by a rope used to strangle the person. Gowri had been working as a construction labourer in Aluva for the past few years.
