Kochi Corporation plants 100 saplings in Subhash Park

The Kochi Corporation planted 100 fruit tree saplings in Subhash Chandra Bose Park as an initial step to execute the government’s 1 crore tree saplings project.

KOCHI: As part of the World Environment Day celebrations, the Kochi Corporation planted 100 fruit tree saplings in Subhash Chandra Bose Park as an initial step to execute the government’s 1 crore tree saplings project.  Mayor Soumini Jain inaugurated the project by planting a gooseberry sapling.

“This year the Corporation aims at promoting sustainable development and afforestation to conserve environment so that it stays as a blessing for the future generations,” the Mayor said.

Other than conventional plants, this year, the corporation targets the construction of a vertical garden solely with fruit trees, she said. Some of the fruit trees of this project include avocado, rambutan, jackfruit, gooseberry, pomegranate, mangosteen, custard apple, pear, litchi, sapota, nutmeg, guava, bell fruit, fig and lemon. 

Actor, Shane Nigam, Deputy Mayor, T J Vinod,  and councillors K V P Krishnakumar, Gracy Joseph, A B Sabu, Minimol V K, P M Haris, Shiny Mathew, Poornima Narayan and A S Anuja attended.
