KOCHI: The Singapore-based Ng Siow Lee believes that  travel help a person appreciate life better. Her award-winning travel blogs are testimony to this fact. “The first time I decided to travel, I was taken out of my comfort zone,” she says  She also learnt to become more resilient and  cherish every small thing. “For example, I only have one meal every day during my travels because I prefer to travel low-budget. It taught me the value of essentials, even food,” said Siow, who was in Kochi recently for a conference.

What sets Siow’s blog, ‘I am Yuki’, (mostly in Mandarin Chinese), different from the others is that she writes about her travels and life experiences, to inspire people who are battling issues like depression.
“I have met many people who are facing problems in their life. Some of them are strong and move on. The others, however, don’t know how to overcome the trauma in their lives. I use my blogs to empower and embolden them,” she said.

The feedback has been amazing. “There are many who tell me how they have been able to face life with a different approach,” she said.

Most of Siow’s followers, who are from Singapore, Malaysia, China and Taiwan, are  women. She is happy that she has been able to use her blog to inspire Asian women to travel solo. “From where I come from, there are very few women who choose to travel alone since there are a lot of inhibitions,” she said.

The money earned from Siow’s blogs have been used to sponsor children in India, as well as those from South-East Asia.Siow is also actively involved in helping elderly people and doing charity events in Singapore. She is also a YouTube host for travel and food.
