KOCHI: Two persons were killed after the car in which they were travelling rammed into a parked lorry near Angamaly on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday.

Sunilkumar, 46, of Uzhavoor Kanatt and Manoj Kumar, 49, of Vijaya Bhavan, Muvattupuzha, are the deceased. The driver of the car escaped with minor injuries.

The accident occurred around 2 am on Saturday near the Nayarangadi bus stop on MC Road. The car was proceeding from Uzhavoor to Kannur, while the log-laden lorry was parked on the roadside. “The driver of the lorry, which was on the way to Chalakkudy, had halted the vehicle after it developed a snag. The car driver apparently failed to notice the large logs protruding from the truck. Though the driver made an attempt to avoid the collision, it was too late,” said the police.

Though Manoj Kumar was rushed to hospital in another vehicle, he died on the way.

Sunilkumar was taken out of the car by Fire and Safety personnel and rushed to a private hospital, where he was declared brought dead.  The bodies were handed over to relatives after postmortem.
