Nursing student abuse: CPM under fire for protecting accused

The Ernakulam district congress committee (DCC) has alleged the CPM leadership is attempting to protect the person who allegedly abused a nursing student at the Tripunithura Taluk Hospital recently.

KOCHI:The Ernakulam district congress committee (DCC) has alleged the CPM leadership is attempting to protect the person who allegedly abused a nursing student at the Tripunithura Taluk Hospital recently.

In a statement issued here on Friday, DCC general secretary Raju P Nair claimed the accused was a CPM worker. The accused, a  temporary employee, allegedly abused the student inside the injection room of the hospital on February 27.

The victim had lodged a complaint with the principal, which was forwarded to the hospital superintendent and then to the municipal chairperson.  “The municipal chairperson tried to close the file by dismissing the accused. When the UDF councillors raised the issue in the municipal council after a few days, the chairperson said it was up to the hospital authorities to take a final decision on the matter,” alleged Raju.
“It was due to pressure from the Congress members in the hospital committee the  complaint was handed over to the police, which clearly shows the CPM had tried to save the accused,” he said.  The DCC also demanded legal action against the municipal chairperson.
