Railway vendor fined for lack of hygiene

The Railways has slapped a fine of I20,000 on a food vendor at the Aluva railway station, after a video showing his staff breaking ice block on the railway track went viral on the social media.

 KOCHI: The Railways has slapped a fine of I20,000 on a food vendor at the Aluva railway station, after a video showing his staff breaking ice block on the railway track went viral on the social media.

The video depicts a man breaking an ice block on the track, which is strewn with food waste and faeces. The action against the vendor, identified as P Raveendran, came following an inspection conducted by a Railways commercial inspector.

The inspection also revealed the vendor did not have a fridge or freezer at his shop, and  stored the ice meant for preparing juice in unhygienic conditions.
