KOCHI: In order to establish a concrete evidence of suicide in the mysterious death of 18-year old CA student Mishel Shaji Varghese, the Crime Branch has begun a probe on Monday to recover her bag and mobile phone.

The investigators conducted a search in the backwaters under the second Goshree bridge with the help of private scuba divers. So far, the investigators have not made a breakthrough on what had prompted the girl to take the extreme step.

The Crime Branch team has begun collecting CCTV visuals from private firms and apartments even as investigators suspected someone had followed the girl.

According to police, Cronin Alexander Baby, 26, who has been arrested for abetment of suicide of Mishel, had mentally harassed the girl following issues in their relationship, which prompted her to take the extreme step. However, further details are still unknown.

Mishel’s dead body was found near the Ernakulam Wharf. Her family members have ruled out any possibility of suicide though the police seemed to to be sticking to that angle.
