Learn tips to grow organic vegetables

KOCHI:If you are looking to learn the right techniques to cultivate organic vegetables and fruits in your kitchen yard or terrace, the India-International Food and Agri-Aqua Expo at Goldsouk Mall is the place you need to visit.

The event which is being organised by the Foundation for Organic Agriculture and Rural Development in association with NABARD will be on at the Mall from March 24 to 27. This is the seventh edition of the annual expo.

Apart from the exhibition and sale of organic farm products, the expo will have seminars on organic spices, buyer-seller meet, agriculture practise shared by the farmers, innovations in agriculture and tie up government departments and agencies promoting agriculture. The expo intends to help farmers gain knowledge on better farming practises, development of forward and backward linkage for producers, processors and traders, enhance market leads for value added organic products. Similarly, the expo will also motivate farmers to establish producer organisations facilitating collective marketing.

P T Thomas MLA will inaugurate the expo at 6 pm on Friday. In the morning a workshop on Possibilities of Organic Farming in Kerala will be held. P C Cyriac, a retired IAS officer and chairman of the Foundation for Organic Agriculture Rural Development said in cities like Kochi several people are engaged in terrace farming. By updating their knowledge on organic farming, they can cultivate  vegetables and fruits for their consumption with ease.
“These days people are showing interest in agriculture. This expo will provide a platform for people who are looking to produce organic vegetables and fruit in their own backyard. The four day expo would be packed with various events,” he said.
