KOCHI: The protest against relocation of a liquor outlet run by the Consumerfed, from Vyttila to Ponnurunni, turned violent on Thursday.
According to the police, Consumerfed employees hurled bottles containing urine at the protesters, including Hibi Eden MLA, triggering a scuffle. Later, the police intervened in the issue and brought the situation under control.

The liquor outlet was relocated to Ponnurunni from Vyttila last week. The Joint Agitation Council has been staging a protest in front of the outlet for the last two days.
Bottles were reportedly hurled at the protesters when they tried to close the outlet.
“We were staging protest in a peaceful manner. A group of people threw bottles from inside the shop when the protesters tried to pull down the shop’s shutters,” said Hibi.
