Awareness event on Gaucher disease
KOCHI: The Lysosomal Storage Disorders Support Society (LSDSS), a patient group for Lysosomal Storage Disorders, held a Gaucher disease awareness event in Aluva recently. The event aimed at creating awareness about Gaucher as a disease and its symptoms, supporting the Gaucher community at large and appealing to the state government to provide funds for treating patients with LSDs.
“Gaucher is a life-threatening condition the diagnosis of which is often difficult due to varying symptoms. It is one of the very few LSDs for which treatment is available and thus, timely diagnosis is important. If diagnosed at the appropriate time, patients can be provided treatment which has shown to have a very positive impact,” said Dr Sankar V H, associate professor and consultant geneticist at SAT Hospital.
