Ernakulam tops in revenue recovery, land tax collection

Kannayannur taluk collects I24.72 crore - the largest amount collected by the taluks during the revenu recovery drive.

KOCHI: As the 2017-18 fiscal came to an end on March 31, Ernakulam district emerged at the top with a record revenue recovery and land tax earnings in the state. The district which was given a revenue recovery target of Rs 92.14 crore, collected Rs 127.75 crore.

The achievement this year has helped wipe out the poor collections in the last fiscal when the district was given the target of collecting Rs 112.76 crore, but collected only Rs 69.78 crore. This year, the district was able to collect Rs 57.97 crore more than last year. In land tax, Ernakulam earned Rs 12.34 crore more compared to last year and was also able to surpass its land tax target.

Even though the district was to collect Rs 55.33 crore as land tax, it deposited Rs 57.11 crore in the treasury.  The target for the last fiscal was Rs 41.1 crore and the district was able to collect Rs 44.77 crore.The taluk that collected the largest amount during the revenue recovery drive was Kannayannur.

It collected Rs 24.72 crore. Kunnathunadu taluk comes second with a collection of Rs 15.15 crore. Aluva came third with a collection of Rs 9.43 crore. Muvattupuzha taluk collected Rs 9.15 crore, Kochi Rs 7.88 crore, Paravur Rs 4.30 crore and Kothamangalam Rs 3.18 crore.

Kerala State Financial Enterprise collected Rs 21.44 crore as revenue, while Rs 32.46 crore was the revenue recovery amount collected by Kerala Financial Corporation. Meanwhile, in the case of land tax collection too, Kanayannur taluk came first with Rs 21.17 crore. Aluva came second with Rs 11.12 crore, while Muvattupuzha came third with Rs 6.13 crore.

Kunnathunadu’s collection stood at Rs 5.97 crore, Paravur at Rs 5.30 crore, Kochi at Rs 4.11 crore and Kothamanagalam collected Rs 3.29 crore as land tax.District Collector K Muhammed Y Safirullah congratulated the tahsildars and the staff for the outstanding achievement.
