KOCHI: A website is a strong platform where one can express his thoughts and insights, and build an image. Celebrities had realised its reach long ago, and police officers are following suit.

Two IPS officers — Jacob Thomas and P Vijayan — are already popular in the cyber world with their personal websites and the new entrant to the lot is Inspector General (Crimes) S Sreejith.

Though many IPS officers have been blogging on varied topics, registering a domain name in their names is somewhat new among the officers, that too after State Police Chief Loknath Behera recently issued them a warning to check their social media usage, and the content which they post and share.

“There’s nothing wrong in an officer launching a personal website. But there’re certain restrictions with regard to the content which an officer can publish. He/she shouldn’t post content against the government or matters related to his official assignment. Every IPS officer has to comply with the Code of Conduct Rules,” said Behera. Sreejith said he wanted to express his thoughts and share certain social messages with the public through his website.

“As a police officer, I’ve come across a lot of situations where people have no idea about social evils like human trafficking. I thought of using it as a tool to sensitise people about them. I’ve to get clarity on Code of Conduct Rules before making it fully operational,” he said.
