Kochi: Minor girl raped; probe on to track down Tamil Nadu native

KOCHI:  The Perumbavoor police have launched a probe to track down a Tamil Nadu native who allegedly molested a six-year-old girl. According to police officers, the incident occurred on March 31 when the victim and her brother went to the accused's residence. The accused managed to keep the girl's brother away from the house by asking him to go for fishing in a nearby canal. He then raped the girl.

"The victim was staying with her aunt since her parents had been at the Kalamassery Medical College during the period. She narrated the incident to her aunt, who, in turn, alerted the girl's parents," said an officer.

The girl's mother lodged a complaint with the police on Tuesday. Childline workers took the victim's statement. Officers said a case has been registered under the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) against the person. A search is on to trace the accused, who has been absconding.
